WHAT IS CREATIVITY?
In Genesis 1:28, God says for us to “be fruitful.” We were created in His own image by Him. We have the ability to be creative just as God is. Therefore, we will be fruitful when we create just as He was and is.
Because I now understand fruitful as being creative, I utilize and combine imagination with my mind and body’s physical ability to write, draw, and paint. I see God’s creation and then interpret my level of skills and interest to thus create.
Often when I offer the concept that we are all creative, I usually hear back, “I have no talent, in fact, I can’t draw a straight line.” I wonder what God thinks when we limit ourselves.
In my upcoming children’s book, “JoJo! What Happened to Your Hair?,” I am using my imagination to write, draw, and paint what I see – what I love and want to share. Henry Thoreau said, “The world is but a canvas to our imagination.” And that it’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.
I’m reinventing my later years by reigniting my dormant God-given creativity and observation. When I was young, I saw the world as new to me because I was new to the world. today in my 60’s, I will create and interpret meaningfully everything: what I see, feel, and am conscious of all the time. I will do this every day I have left by giving in awe as if all things are anew.
Creativity is a gift we all have.
The greatest gift we can give to ourselves and to others is to find our meaningful, uplifting, and empowering creativity and to create. Your creativity can be your job, family, and/or community. God gave us a fabulous world to examine.
